Worthington Scout Signup
Nights

September is Fall recruiting month for most Worthington Area Cub Scout Packs.  Most packs will be holding a Scout Night  to sign up new scouts.  There will be activities for the kids to do (sometimes involving the assistant Cubmaster getting soaked by water rockets) while the parents attend a short presentation about the pack's program.

Scout Night Training
On August 8 and August 11, the Buckeye District Membership
committee held training sessions for Scout Night.
If you were unable to attend these meetings,
check out the powerpoint slides used in the
presentation for important information.
  • How to schedule school night
  • How to order fliers
  • Web Support
  • How to schedule boy talks; where they're allowed
  • Where to place yard signs (we have yard signs??!)
  • New den program from the BSA
Race to scouting
  • Pick up two free yard signs for your unit
  • Pick up applications and other supplies
  • Tell us when you're holding your school night.
  • Meet your membership coordinator and commissioner staff.

Worthington Scout Nights
See the table below for Scout Night information for Worthington Area Packs.   We would like to have this table complete by beginning of August.  If you have information about your Pack's fall recruiting activities or have feedback about the contents of this page, please contact District Membership committee member, Judy Manley, and cc Al Magnuson.

Of Interest to New Scouts!
. . . . and their parents

It's really not that expensive.
Whazzit Cost?

Most packs raise money through a popcorn sale held in October.  This sale funds most, if not all of the pack's program for the year.  Some packs may collect a renewal fee in September or do an additional fundraiser later in the year. Scouts joining in the spring usually pay a small fee ($8-15) to cover Council registration and Boy's Life.

Pack finances and budgeting vary widely from pack to pack. Ask your pack's adult leaders how this is handled by your pack.

WHERE TO BUY SCOUT SUPPLIES??

Cub scouts typically require a uniform shirt, assorted patches, neckerchief and slide.  The staff at the Council Scout Shop has a good idea of what your scout will need.

The scout shop has lots of cool stuff.  When you visit, it's usually best to leave either your money or your scout at home.

Yesterday you had everything on the uniform checklist, your son's pack meets in two hours, and the neckerchief slide
 is missing.

Don't panic.
This always happens.

Cut a section from the handle of a milk jug, decorate it with colored sharpies and you're back in business.

Paperwork
Way tooooo many scout forms may be found at
http://www.scouting.org/forms/

The Paperwork

You will need to fill out a youth application (linked at right) for your scout.

Your scout's pack also needs to have a Class 1 medical form on file.  This form contains
  • Emergency contacts
  • Information about food allergies and other medical precautions
  • Whether or not your child's immunizations are current.  Many packs do not require specific details.  Check with your pack before calling the pediatrician.
Most packs will ask you to complete a parent talent survey.  Cub scouting cannot happen without parent participation.  Please give this part of the application serious consideration.

By the way, Worthington is part of Buckeye District of Simon Kenton Council -- a frequently asked question.
