Ken and June Smith
Ken Smith, born in 1914, was continuously registered with the Boy
Scouts for 80 years. He was actively engaged in Scouting for
every one of those years, reaching the rank of Eagle, working at Camp
Scouthaven (in the Buffalo NY area). Being inducted into the
Order of the Arrow and serving in every possible volunteer capacity
with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and District leadership in Buffalo,
Rochester, Pleasantville (all New York State) and finally in Columbus,
OH where he served on the camping committee.
Ken and his wife, June, were especially noted for their dedication to
the Scout Camp, Curtis S. Read high adventure camping program in Brant
Lake, NY. They are credited for keeping the camp alive and
bringing trekking to thousands of past and future Scouts. Ken
serviced as the summer Director of the the camp for several years in
the early 1990's with June assisting by his side with the office
details. Ken and June are both recipients of the Silver
Beaver award for their dedication and service.
